DOrSU inaugurates Lupon External Classes

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) inaugurated its Lupon External Classes on August 1, 2026, at the Old Municipal Hall, Aguinaldo Street, Poblacion, Lupon, Davao Oriental.
The inauguration was attended by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, officials from the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), provincial and municipal government officials, education partners, and members of the DOrSU community.
The opening of the Lupon External Classes follows nearly a year of planning between DOrSU and the Local Government Unit of Lupon (LGU Lupon). The process began with a public consultation on July 28, 2025, followed by the signing of a memorandum of agreement on Aug. 19, 2025, to conduct a feasibility study. The study, presented on Jan. 28, 2026, supported the establishment of the external classes.
On March 6, 2026, the DOrSU Board of Regents approved the proposal, subject to compliance with the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). DOrSU and LGU Lupon signed another memorandum of agreement on May 18, 2026, defining their respective responsibilities in the operation of classes.
Under the agreement, DOrSU will oversee academic and administrative operations, while LGU Lupon will provide facilities, identify a permanent campus site, and allocate ₱2 million annually, subject to the annual appropriations process of the Sangguniang Bayan, until the campus receives regular funding under the General Appropriations Act.
The DOrSU Lupon External Classes provide students in Lupon and nearby municipalities with another opportunity to pursue college education closer to home. The program also supports Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and equitable access to tertiary education.
