DOrSU showcases artificial clay reefs, natural dyes at regional expo

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) showcased its artificial clay reef technology and natural dye innovation at the 2026 Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Week (RSTW) × HANDA Pilipinas–Mindanao Leg, held on October 15-17 at the SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang, Davao City.
DOrSU’s Artificial Clay Reef (ACR) project, developed in collaboration with rrreefs, featured modular clay structures used in the University’s coral reef restoration efforts. Researchers Rheacin Polestico, Lorjie Bation, and Ross Vincent Loguinsa introduced visitors to the technology and its applications in marine biodiversity conservation.
The exhibit also featured Reef Missions, an interactive game designed to teach participants about coral reefs and coastal ecosystems.
Meanwhile, DOrSU–UResCom’s D-Dagta (Development of Dye as Art-Medium Generated from Natural Assets) Project presented natural dyes derived from squid ink, annatto, turmeric, and other renewable resources for artistic applications.
Project exhibitors Eliza Dave U. Bakiao, Mykha B. Pandalili, and Dr. Wilanfranco C. Tayone displayed framed artworks and dye samples demonstrating the potential of locally sourced materials in art production.
Both exhibits attracted students and other visitors who participated in interactive activities and engaged with the researchers about their work.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office XI, the three-day event featured science and technology exhibits, demonstrations, forums and learning activities centered on sustainable development, climate resilience, and disaster preparedness.
