DOrSU-RIC XI earns BFAR recognition for fisheries, coastal management work
Davao Oriental State University’s Regional Integrated Coastal Resource Management Center XI (RIC XI) received the Gawad Pagkilala from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) for its contributions to sustainable fisheries and coastal resource management.
RIC XI Director Amy G. Ponce received the award during the closing program of the 63rd Fish Conservation Week on September 18 in Quezon City.
DOrSU was the only state university and college (SUC) recognized during the occasion.
The award cited RIC XI for its significant and meaningful contributions to the protection and sustainable development of fisheries resources, particularly through programs and projects that support fishing communities.
Based at DOrSU, RIC XI has worked with government agencies, local communities, and other partners on initiatives related to coastal resource management, fisheries, conservation, and the sustainable use of marine resources.
The recognition places renewed attention on the University’s work in coastal and fisheries resource management, an area of particular importance to Davao Oriental and its coastal communities.
