DOrSU opens ASEAN Month, eyes more student, faculty exchanges
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) opened its ASEAN Month 2026 celebration on September 21 at the Administration Building lobby, with university officials calling for stronger academic ties and more exchange opportunities with institutions across Southeast Asia.
This year’s celebration carries the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together.”
Dr. Lilibeth S. Galvez, Vice President for Global Affairs and Strategic Operations, said universities play an important role in bringing ASEAN communities closer through academic collaboration, research, cultural exchange, and student mobility.
She also cited DOrSU’s existing engagements with universities in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia as part of the University’s growing international linkages.
DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, meanwhile, encouraged academic programs to look beyond existing partnerships and explore exchange opportunities for both students and faculty.
“Connect with universities in other countries and establish student and faculty exchange programs within your academic programs. We are already doing this with our IT, Mathematics, and Hospitality Management programs. Other programs can explore ASEAN exchange opportunities as well,” President Ponce said.
The opening program kicked off a series of activities for ASEAN Month and placed particular emphasis on widening opportunities for DOrSU students and faculty to study, teach, collaborate, and gain exposure in partner institutions within the region.
