DOrSU highlights SDG initiatives at 2026 Sustainability Summit

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) highlighted its work on health, marine conservation, and biodiversity protection during the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Summit 2026 held virtually on September 17.
Representing the University, Director for Extension Dr. Lanie B. Laureano presented DOrSU’s initiatives under SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 14: Life Below Water, and SDG 15: Life on Land.
Dr. Laureano discussed how these initiatives are anchored on DOrSU’s GROWTH 2029 framework and regenerative futures vision, which guide the University’s efforts to integrate sustainability and regenerative development across its academic, research, extension, and community-based programs.
The presentation also built on DOrSU’s inaugural participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, where the University placed 1001–1500 overall. Its strongest performance came in SDG 14: Life Below Water, ranking 201–300 globally, followed by SDG 15: Life on Land at 301–400.
The summit was spearheaded by the University of Mindanao (UM), with DOrSU and Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) as co-organizers. It brought together the three higher education institutions to share their respective approaches and practices in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office XI (DOST XI) also took part in the gathering, presenting collaborative projects aligned with the SDGs.
Held under the theme “Institutional Initiatives for the UN SDGs: Best Practices and Ways Forward,” the summit provided a venue for participating institutions and partners to exchange experiences and explore ways of strengthening their contributions to the global goals.
