DOrSU, DOPI open transfer pathways from TVET to higher education
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and the Davao Oriental Polytechnic Institute (DOPI) forged a five-year partnership to establish pathways for equivalency, credit transfer, and academic articulation between Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and higher education programs.
Dr. Roy G. Ponce, DOrSU President, and Ms. Maria Magdalena P. Pomar, DOPI Vocational School Administrator, led the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on September 16 at the University Boardroom, DOrSU Main Campus.
At the center of the partnership is the recognition and possible crediting of competencies, qualifications, National Certificates, training experiences, and prior learning acquired by qualified DOPI learners and graduates who pursue related academic programs at DOrSU, subject to the University’s evaluation procedures and applicable policies and standards.
The two institutions will also undertake curriculum mapping and competency validation to determine which technical-vocational subjects and learning outcomes may be considered equivalent to components of DOrSU’s academic programs. Qualified DOPI learners may also be provided streamlined admission and enrollment procedures, subject to University rules.
The agreement follows the Philippine Credit Transfer System under the CHED-TESDA Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, series of 2023, which provides a framework for linking Technical Vocational Education and Training qualifications with higher education.
Through the partnership, DOrSU and DOPI seek to create more seamless educational pathways for learners, allowing competencies gained through technical-vocational training to be assessed and recognized as they advance to higher education.
