DOrSU, UPMin hold pre-inception meeting for aquaculture project
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UPMin) held a pre-inception meeting on August 6 to begin a joint research project that aims to improve shrimp and milkfish farming and help strengthen food security in Regions XI and XII.
The activity introduced the research initiative to university officials and researchers from both institutions and discussed how they will work together throughout its implementation. Participants also reviewed the project’s objectives, assigned responsibilities, and planned the activities needed to carry it out.
The project, titled “Integrating Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP), Social Inclusion, and Sustainability in Shrimp and Milkfish Value Chains to Enhance Food Security in Region XI and Region XII,” focuses on improving the way shrimp and milkfish are raised, handled, and marketed. It also aims to help fish farmers increase their income while promoting environmentally responsible farming.
The meeting also emphasized the partnership between DOrSU and UPMin through joint research, knowledge sharing, and the development of practical solutions to support the aquaculture industry in Mindanao.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen research between the two universities while supporting the growth of the aquaculture industry and improving food security in the region.
