DOrSU extends psychosocial support in Davao Occidental medical, humanitarian mission
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) joined a multi-agency medical and humanitarian mission on July 18, extending healthcare, psychosocial services, and relief assistance to residents of Barangay Kitayo and Barangay Balangonan in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
Representing the University were Dr. Rose Anelyn V. Ceniza, Dr. Cris Lloyd A. Ceniza, and Ms. Carmen Talaid, who provided mental health and psychosocial support to residents affected by the recent earthquakes.
The activity was spearheaded by the Helping Our People in Emergencies (HOPE) Team of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mati, led by Diocesan Social Action Director Rev. Fr. Orveil P. Andrade, DCM, with the assistance of Rev. Fr. Rolando J. Fernandez, MI, head of St. Camillus Hospital.
Doctors, health workers, and volunteers from St. Camillus Hospital, the Lay Camillians, Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center, Davao Oriental Capitol Clinic, and other partner groups also took part in the outreach.
Hundreds of residents from the two barangays received free medical consultations, medicines, psychosocial support, and other forms of assistance. Relief goods, beddings, and essential supplies were also distributed.
DOrSU’s participation forms part of its continuing involvement in community-based mental health and disaster response initiatives. In recent years, the University has regularly deployed trained personnel to assist individuals and communities coping with the psychological and emotional effects of emergencies and natural disasters.
Working with partner institutions, DOrSU helped deliver a coordinated response that addressed both the immediate needs and emotional recovery of disaster-affected families, reflecting its regenerative futures vision of building resilient communities and advancing human flourishing.
