DOrSU conducted training on Mangrove Propagation and Mangrove planting activities among residents of Brgy. Sibajay, Boston, Davao Oriental, on December 20, 2023.
Associate Professor Dr. John Glen P. Seniel, whose expertise is in Mangrove management, emphasized the vital role of Mangrove planting and propagation in coastal resilience and biodiversity conservation. “Mangroves serve as natural barriers, protecting coastlines from erosion and storm damage while providing crucial habitats for diverse marine life,” added Dr. Seniel.
Additionally, Dr. Misael B. Clapano, University Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, expressed gratitude to DOST, the funding agency, and LGU Boston for their positive response to the activity. In his remarks, VP RIE Clapano emphasized that the DOST CEST program has five entry points, and the seminar falls under ‘Environmental Protection and Conservation.’
The activity aligns with DOrSU President Ponce’s commitment to regenerative actions for a sustainable future. Participants expressed enthusiasm in applying their knowledge to contribute to the regeneration of mangrove ecosystems. (DOrSU PIO)
