Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), through its Office of Student Counseling and Development (OSCD), encouraged students to speak up about mental health concerns and seek support as it continued its Mental Health Month celebration with activities on October 8.
The activities centered on the āVoices Forum: A Mental Health Talk Session,ā held at the Student Center, where Judalyn J. Forro, RPsy, RPm, Head of the Guidance and Counseling Section of Davao de Oro State College, served as the speaker.
The forum gave students an opportunity to listen to a mental health professional and learn about the importance of recognizing mental health concerns, talking about them, and seeking help when needed.
The activity supported the universityās goal of promoting positive help-seeking among students. The Mental Health Month program also aims to help students understand mental health concerns, their effects, and the support services available to them.
The day also featured a Moral and Spiritual Enrichment Session conducted through Google Meet and livestream in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs.
The two activities offered different forms of support for students. The Voices Forum focused on mental health awareness and help-seeking, while the afternoon session provided a space for reflection and guidance.
The activities were part of DOrSUās prevention and wellness program, which addresses concerns affecting studentsā physical and mental well-being and promotes awareness of available mental health resources and support services.
Through the activities, DOrSU reminded students that asking for help is an important step when mental health concerns become difficult to handle alone.
