DOrSU, MPCI Explore Institutional Cooperation Arrangement for CHED-Accredited Programs

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), and Mati Polytechnic College, Inc. (MPCI) held an exploratory meeting on May 6, 2026, to discuss a potential institutional cooperation arrangement aimed at expanding access to quality higher education for the people of Davao Oriental and neighboring provinces.
The proposed collaboration seeks to complement and strengthen the CHED-accredited academic programs already being offered by MPCI. The initiative is envisioned to broaden educational opportunities for students and professionals within the community while enhancing academic accessibility, inclusivity, and institutional cooperation in the region.
Key matters discussed during the meeting included the possible crafting of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), faculty development initiatives, facility sharing, academic complementation, and other collaborative undertakings in accordance with CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 40, Series of 2008.
Representing CHED RO XI during the meeting were Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CESO III; Chief Education Program Specialist Dr. Christopher Pio O. Pulido; and Education Supervisor Dr. Lourdes D. Cesar. Representatives from Mati Polytechnic College, Inc. were led by MPCI President Dr. Janice Bernadeth Agbong, together with James Ryan Ferrando, Program Coordinator, and Dr. Iris Jane Agbong-Coates, External Vice President.
The officials emphasized the importance of forging strategic partnerships that uphold quality assurance standards and contribute to the continuous improvement of higher education delivery.
Anchored on DOrSU’s regenerative development niche, the exploratory dialogue also underscored the university’s commitment to advancing inclusive and sustainable education by promoting collaborative academic initiatives that are responsive to the needs of local communities and regional development.
The discussions also highlighted the shared commitment of DOrSU and MPCI to promote academic excellence, institutional capacity-building, inclusion, and resource complementation for the benefit of students, faculty members, and the broader academic community.
Officials noted that the meeting serves as an initial step toward formalizing the proposed partnership, with further consultations and evaluations expected in the coming months prior to the finalization of the agreement.
Once realized, the collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for instruction, professional development, and institutional growth while reinforcing CHED’s vision of accessible, relevant, inclusive, and quality higher education in the region.
