Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) officials, led by University President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, conducted an on-site inspection at DOrSU Banaybanay and San Isidro Campuses on February 6, 2024, following heavy rainfall induced by the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) that affected Mindanao.
At the San Isidro Campus, soil erosion has affected certain slope areas due to persistent rainfall, leading to the uprooting of several trees. Immediate measures, including debris clearing and the removal of leaning trees, have been recommended to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants. With the mountainous terrain of the San Isidro Campus, future projects will prioritize the implementation of slope protection measures.
Meanwhile, signs of flooding were observed at the Banaybanay Campus, particularly in its low-lying areas. To address this issue and prevent future flooding, drainage system projects will be prioritized for the campus.
DOrSU remains steadfast in its commitment to prioritize environmentally sustainable and disaster-resilient projects, underscoring its dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its campus community. As part of this commitment, the university is currently undertaking the construction of the Green Technology Earthquake-proof Academic Building. This innovative multi-storey structure, characterized by contemporary design elements, integrates Green Architecture concepts aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.
