Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in tourism as it celebrated World Tourism Day 2026 on September 29.
Spearheaded by the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program and its Young Hoteliers Organization, in collaboration with the Tourism Information, Education, and Communication Center (TIEC), the celebration carried the theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The event featured activities and competitions that challenged hospitality management students to apply their knowledge of tourism, digital innovation, and practical hospitality skills. These included challenges on tour guiding, smart accommodation concepts, tourism and artificial intelligence, as well as culinary and food-service skills.
Through the activities, the students explored how emerging technologies are reshaping tourism and hospitality while applying competencies developed in the classroom.
The celebration underscored DOrSU’s continuing effort to prepare hospitality management students for a tourism industry increasingly shaped by technology, while reinforcing the importance of human skills, service, and creativity in the sector.
