DOrSU marks 126th Civil Service Anniversary with renewed pledge to public service
Davao Oriental State University joined government agencies nationwide in observing the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary this September, with employees signing a commitment wall during the University’s regular Monday convocation on September 7.
This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Bawat Kawani, Lingkod Bayani: Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para sa Bayan,” highlighting the role of government employees in delivering public service with dedication, integrity, and competence.
DOrSU employees affixed their signatures on the commitment wall as a collective expression of their commitment to public service and to the responsibilities that come with being part of a government institution.
In his message, Dr. Ponce talked about integrity, professional growth, and the larger purpose of working in a public university—points that closely reflected the values carried by this year’s Civil Service Anniversary theme. He reminded personnel that University resources and processes are entrusted to them and should be handled responsibly. He also warned against negligence and corruption, stressing that both can weaken institutions when employees fail to take responsibility for the work and resources placed in their care.
Dr. Ponce also urged both new and current employees to continuously build their credentials and pursue further training to prepare for future vacancies and leadership roles.
He framed this professional development as a mutual benefit, noting that as the university invests in its personnel, the employees reciprocate by strengthening the institution.
“While we are building you, kamo pud ang nag-build sa [you are also the ones building the] University,” he added.
Grounding his message in DOrSU’s regenerative futures philosophy, Dr. Ponce reminded the civil servants that their primary mandate is the welfare of Davao Oriental’s communities. He stressed that their work in education, research, and innovation must prioritize public progress over personal advancement.
“Dili kita ang sentro [We are not the center],” he said.
The signed commitment wall will remain on display throughout September as a physical reminder of the employees’ collective pledge to execute their government duties with competence, dignity, and heart.
