DOrSU BSHM launches Project MAGDAYA, Project SERVICE

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Program of Davao Oriental State University launched two flagship initiatives, Project MAGDAYA and Project SERVICE, on May 7, 2026.
Led by the Faculty of Business and Management, the launching introduced programs designed to strengthen hands-on hospitality education, edutourism, student welfare, and community-based learning.
Project MAGDAYA, which stands for “Movement for the Advancement of Green and Cultural Tourism, Academic Innovation, Youth Empowerment, and Advocating Regenerative Future through Edutourism,” is envisioned as an edutourism hub that links hospitality training with culture, food innovation, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. The project includes plans to develop MAGDAYA Lantawan Hall as a cultural-academic gateway, improve hospitality and culinary laboratories, strengthen the Food Innovation Laboratory, and implement a Roots-to-Reefs learning and edutourism circuit.
The project also highlights the use of DOrSU’s clay and 3D printing initiatives for learning exposure, particularly in reef restoration and conservation-oriented tourism.
Project SERVICE, or “Students’ Empowerment and Responsible Ventures for Innovation, Collaboration, and Engagement,” focuses on student welfare, service learning, and sustainable student-led ventures. Its components include food support activities under SERVICE Nourish, water refilling initiatives under SERVICE Hydrate, and income-generating projects under SERVICE Enterprise.
The launching also featured student competitions in complete restaurant set-up, buffet skirting, and tour guiding, giving students opportunities to demonstrate technical skills and industry-based competencies.
University officials, led by DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, attended the launching together with Vice President for Finance and Administration Dr. Roy M. Padilla, Faculty of Business and Management Dean Dr. Rizaldy V. Maypa, BSHM faculty members, staff, and students.
