BFP XI Regional Director leads DOrSU visit for MOA signing on criminology internship program

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region XI formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on March 18, strengthening their partnership for the internship of Criminology students.
BFP XI Regional Director FCSUPT Junito F Maslang led the BFP delegation during the ceremonial signing, accompanied by Davao Oriental Provincial Fire Marshal FSUPT Joycelyn Hernaez-Grant, Mati City Fire Marshal FSINSP Elizabeth D Capiña, and other fire officers.
The agreement reinforces DOrSU’s efforts to provide criminology students with stronger field exposure by linking them with one of the country’s frontline public safety agencies for their on-the-job training.
In his message, DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce said the partnership reflects the university’s serious commitment to preparing students not only for licensure examinations, but also for actual public service.
“This is a very significant occasion because it shows the university’s seriousness in molding you into professionals who will serve with integrity,” Dr. Ponce told the student-interns. He added that partnerships with agencies such as the BFP help complete students’ training by exposing them to professional workplace standards and real service environments. Dr. Ponce also cited DOrSU’s recent performance in the Licensure Examination for Criminologists, where the university posted a high passing rate and produced a Top 4 passer, as proof of the strength of its training program.
Meanwhile, FCSUPT Maslang described the agreement as a significant step toward advancing public safety and community resilience. He emphasized that fire safety is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of schools, institutions, and communities, adding that the partnership with DOrSU would pave the way for fire safety education, training, research collaboration, and community outreach. He likewise lauded the university for integrating safety and disaster preparedness into its institutional direction through partnerships with government agencies.
BS Criminology Program Head Maria Linel B. Talamera also underscored the importance of the partnership, saying it gives students meaningful experiential learning opportunities through practical training. “Through the guidance and mentorship of the BFP, our students are given the opportunity to translate academic knowledge into practical skills while they embrace the values of discipline, professionalism, and public service,” she said.
Also present during the signing were several student-interns and faculty members of the Faculty of Criminal Justice Education (FCJE) led by Dean Dr. Rex S. Aparicio.
With the agreement in place, DOrSU and BFP Region XI are expected to strengthen internship opportunities and deepen collaboration in programs aligned with their shared mandate of professional training and public safety.
