DOrSU holds training for student leaders

Student leaders of Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) attended a leadership training on March 17, 2026, at the university’s Main Campus, with discussions focused on balancing leadership responsibilities, academic demands, and personal well-being. The activity was organized by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) under the leadership of OSA Head Mr. Felipe Jr M. Cergas.
One of the resource speakers, Ms. Aira Nicole T. Ancog, delivered a talk titled “Leading from Within,” which focused on navigating leadership responsibilities while safeguarding mental well-being. Drawing from her experience as a former student leader, Ancog shared insights on the realities of balancing academics and leadership roles, as well as the lessons she gained through those experiences.
She emphasized the strong connection between mental health and effective leadership, stressing that leadership growth is not only about guiding others but also about understanding oneself. Ancog also offered practical strategies for student leaders, including setting boundaries, embracing self-care, and seeking support when needed. Her message called on student leaders to lead with purpose, maintain balance, and uplift one another as they help shape a future grounded in resilience, well-being, and meaningful service.
Meanwhile, Mr. Alvin John M. Aligato highlighted that leadership has no single formula, urging student leaders to discover and develop their own way of balancing academic demands with leadership responsibilities.
In his discussion, Aligato emphasized the importance of self-awareness, adaptability, and effective time management, encouraging participants to value prioritization over perfection. He also reminded student leaders to protect their well-being in order to prevent burnout and to lead with purpose by aligning their personal goals with their duties and responsibilities.
For Aligato, leadership is best understood not as a rigid set of rules, but as a practice of intentional balance—one that requires clarity, discipline, and commitment.
The training provided DOrSU student leaders with an opportunity to reflect on their responsibilities, strengthen their leadership foundations, and gain practical strategies for balancing service, academics, and personal well-being. In line with the university’s regenerative futures vision, the activity also contributed to shaping students into future-ready leaders grounded in purpose, resilience, and social responsibility.
