SNSU students kick off educational tour at DOrSU with learning session, research facility visits

Students from Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) officially began their educational tour at Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) on March 18 with a learning session on ecosystem management and visits to DOrSU’s research, innovation, and production facilities.
The delegation, led by Ms. Roselle Estal-Bertulfo of SNSU, is composed of 46 students enrolled in Terrestrial Ecology, accompanied by faculty members. The visit forms part of a four-day educational tour from March 17 to 20, 2026.
Hosted at the DOrSU Board Room, the opening learning session gathered the visiting students for an inter-university academic exchange centered on environmental science. They were welcomed by Dr. Eleanor M. Vilela, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, who received the delegation on behalf of the university.
The main lecture was delivered by Dr. John Glen P. Seniel, Program Head of DOrSU’s Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, who discussed “Sustainable Management of Terrestrial Ecosystems in Selected Sites of Barangay Macambol, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.” The session was followed by an open forum, where students were able to raise questions and interact directly with the speaker.
In her message, Ms. Estal-Bertulfo thanked DOrSU for welcoming the SNSU delegation and for providing the students with a valuable learning opportunity. She also encouraged the participants to make the most of the visit by gaining insights from the university’s research facilities and academic environment.
After the learning session, the group proceeded to a campus tour and visited the Artificial Coral Reef Production Facility and the University Research Complex (UResCom). The visits introduced the students to DOrSU’s research initiatives and gave them firsthand exposure to facilities that support applied learning, innovation, and sustainability-driven instruction.
Following the March 18 activities, the delegation is scheduled to visit the Mt. Hamiguitan Museum and Research Center, where DOrSU also serves as a key partner in curation, research, and scientific documentation.
The visit underscores DOrSU’s active role in hosting engagements that allow students and faculty members from other institutions to learn from its best practices, academic expertise, research and innovation facilities, and learning environment while promoting stronger collaboration.
