LGU Tarragona pledges ₱200M, land, housing as DOrSU-Tarragona External Classes marks 2nd anniversary

The Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) Tarragona External Classes celebrated its 2nd founding anniversary on September 1, 2025, with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tarragona committing fresh support to strengthen education in the municipality.
Mayor Art Benjie C. Bulaong announced that the LGU will continue its yearly subsidy for campus operations and has allocated ₱200 million for new school facilities. The local government also committed 10 hectares of agricultural land for academic use, financial aid for students, and housing assistance for learners from far-flung barangays.
University officials led by DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce welcomed the commitments, noting that these will expand opportunities for students in Tarragona. Other officials present were Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Dr. Misael B. Clapano, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cheryll L. Bautista, and Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Roy M. Padilla.
In return, DOrSU pledged to provide quality education to ensure higher graduate success rates, strengthen agricultural research in Tarragona, and open new programs such as Veterinary Technology.
Officials said the partnership between DOrSU and the LGU will help make higher education more accessible and responsive to the needs of the community.
