Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) formalized its commitment to community development and innovation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with key government agencies for the implementation of the project titled โA Smart and Sustainable Approach to Empower Communities in Davao Oriental (SmarterDavOr).โ
The partnership was sealed today, April 5, with DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, represented by Dr. Mary Fil Bauyot, Director for Extension, joining fellow signatories: Mr. Joseph Purgatorio, representing Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat of the Local Government Unit of the City of Mati; Ms. Mirasol G. Domingo, Provincial Director of the Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) – PSTO Davao Oriental; Ms. Evamay C. Dela Rosa, Regional Director of the Department of Information and Communications Technology XI (DICT XI); and Dr. Winnie E. Batoon, Schools Division Superintendent of the Department of Education โ City of Mati (DepEd Mati).
Under the MOU, DOrSU commits to coordinating and collaborating closely with DOST XI and partner agencies for the successful implementation of SmarterDavOr. The university will mobilize its academic and research resources to support the development of smart and sustainable communities in the province. Specifically, DOrSU will coordinate project activities with DOST XI, share institutional expertise and resources, assist in the documentation of project milestones, and lead the publication of knowledge outputs and success stories from the initiative.
The SmarterDavOr project aims to empower communities by applying appropriate technologies and innovations that lead to an improved quality of life in the City of Mati, Davao Oriental. It seeks to provide an efficient, stable, and reliable power supply; establish a more engaging and effective learning environment through the integration of smart and technological tools; and enhance the skills of participants in utilizing modern digital tools and software.
Through this partnership, DOrSU strengthens its role in promoting innovation and sustainability in the province. By combining research, community outreach, and collaboration with other agencies, the university helps build resilient, inclusive, and future-ready communities in Davao Oriental.
