PCA, DOrSU to establish communal nursery, seed farm starting this month
The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) will be working on establishing a communal nursery and seed farm this month. This was discussed during a meeting on June 5th at the university conference room 1, with participants including Agriculturist Norman R. Sialana, Division Chief Florence T. Fernandez, and Senior Agriculturist Leah C. Caballero from PCA, as well as Vice President Dr. Misael B. Clapano, and Agriculture Faculty Member Associate Professor Felix T. Lorejo from DOrSU.
The establishment of a communal nursery is part of the PCA’s Coconut Hybridization Program, which aims to provide qualified coconut farmers and potential coconut farmers with hybrid coconut seedlings for planting and replanting in their farms. This collaboration between DOrSU and PCA demonstrates the university’s commitment to supporting the communal nursery establishment, with the goal of increasing farm income and productivity for the benefit of coconut farmers and industry stakeholders in the province of Davao Oriental.
