Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) recognized the outstanding achievements of its graduating class of 2025 during the annual Recognition Program held on June 24 at the DOrSU Main Campus Gymnasium.
Anchored on the theme “Re-imagine, Renew, Revitalize: Convergence for Sustainable Regenerative Futures towards GROWTH 2029,” the event recognized the academic, leadership, and service achievements of graduating students, including 59 Cum Laude awardees who each received a ₱20,000 cash incentive from the university. The young achievers were joined by their proud parents, university officials led by University President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, faculty members, and esteemed guests.
The highlight of the program was the inspiring message of the guest speaker, Maria Genevieve T. Francisquete, CESO VI, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd) – Digos City. In a speech filled with raw honesty and heartfelt encouragement, Francisquete shared her personal story of resilience, of repeatedly dropping out due to poverty and family obligations, but ultimately triumphing through perseverance.
“Poverty was not just a concept to me—it was my daily reality,” she told the graduands. “But I held on, and eventually, I made it.”
She reminded them that their worth is not solely defined by medals or grades, but by their strength to keep going amid adversity. “If you are tired, don’t drop your dreams. Rest, but never quit,” she urged. Francisquete further encouraged them to always remember their roots, uphold integrity, and honor the people who supported them.
“You are now the potential of your communities,” she said with conviction, reminding the Class of 2025 to carry the banner of their Filipino identity and Oriental Dabawenyo pride wherever life takes them.
Dr. Roy G. Ponce, in his message, likewise called on the graduating class to dream boldly and pursue their paths with courage. He reminded them to stay grounded in the values and legacy of DOrSU, encouraging them to become beacons of transformation in their communities while carrying the name of the university with honor.
A touching tribute to parents, guardians, and loved ones was led by Mell Oins V. Bailado, the third-highest honor awardee, who represented the class in expressing gratitude to those who supported them through their academic journey.
Earlier in the day, an interfaith baccalaureate service was held, which included a Catholic Mass, a Protestant worship service, and an Islamic lecture. These activities were offered as a collective expression of thanksgiving and blessing for the graduating class.
More than a celebration, the Recognition Program marked a turning point for the Class of 2025. With gratitude behind them and new challenges ahead, they now carry the hopes of their communities—and the mark of a DOrSU graduate.
