DOrSU Advances Regenerative Futures with Hands-on Training on High-End Analytical Instruments

In pursuit of its 2035 vision of becoming a renowned regenerative futures university in Asia and the Pacific, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), through its University Research Complex (UResCom), successfully conducted a three-day hands-on training on the use and maintenance of advanced laboratory instruments on April 8–11, 2025.
Titled “Advancing Laboratory Excellence: Hands-on Training on UV-Vis, FTIR, and Microwave Digester,” the training marks a significant step in strengthening the university’s research capability and scientific precision. It supports DOrSU’s commitment to building future-ready communities through high-impact research, industry-relevant innovation, and transformative learning.
The training was led by Mr. Ainsley G. Magluyan, a registered chemist and application specialist from Molave Trading, Inc., and was attended by select faculty, staff, and students under the guidance of Dr. Wilanfranco C. Tayone, UResCom Supervisor. Participants were trained on the use of three state-of-the-art analytical instruments—UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) Spectrometer, and Microwave Digestion System—procured through CHED-IDIG and DOST-PCIEERD-funded research projects.
This initiative directly supports the University’s Key Result Area (KRA) on High-Impact Research, reflecting its drive to produce relevant, peer-reviewed research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and secure external research funding. It also advances the KRA on Industry-Relevant Innovation, which emphasizes the development of solutions with real-world applications—evidenced by the creation of patents, utility models, and industrial designs that can be adopted by industry and local communities.
By investing in cutting-edge tools and providing specialized training, DOrSU continues to position itself at the forefront of innovation and sustainability. These efforts pave the way for the commercialization of research outputs and the generation of income, further supporting the university’s broader mission of economic development and community advancement.
This training also reinforces DOrSU’s regenerative futures vision by equipping its academic community with the skills and resources to pursue solutions to environmental and societal challenges. Through scientific excellence and a deep commitment to innovation, DOrSU aims to nurture transformative leaders and research that contribute to inclusive, sustainable development.
Faculty members and researchers are encouraged to collaborate with UResCom to fully utilize these instruments and cultivate a dynamic research environment rooted in regeneration, innovation, and societal impact.
