DOrSU, AdDU Launch Mandarin Program for Government Officials
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), in partnership with Ateneo de Davao University’s Confucius Institute, launched a Mandarin Language Training Program for government officials in Davao Oriental today, November 11. The program’s inauguration was held at the Provincial Governor’s Conference Room, which was attended by local government leaders.
Dr. Lilibeth S. Galvez, Director of DOrSU’s Global Affairs and International Relations Office (GAIRO), opened the ceremony. Dr. Galvez highlighted DOrSU’s commitment to preparing local officials for effective cross-cultural engagement. “The goal of this program is not just to learn a new language but to equip our people with skills that open doors to international collaboration, economic development, and cultural exchange,” Dr. Galvez emphasized, underscoring the broader impact of the program.
Aimed at equipping government officials with basic Mandarin skills, the program will include interactive lessons, practical exercises, and cultural immersion. Prof. Zhang Shenglin, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, presented the program structure and discussed its role in fostering greater understanding and stronger ties with China.
DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce reflected on the university’s commitment to bridging local and global opportunities for Davao Oriental, noting that programs like this help local leaders become more effective in international exchanges.
The program also featured a Pledge of Commitment from participants, affirming their dedication to completing the course. Governor Niño Sotero L. Uy Jr. expressed gratitude to DOrSU and the Confucius Institute and emphasized the importance of language in fostering productive international relationships and collaborations.
Consul General Zhao Xiuzhen of China was also present.
This Mandarin Language Program is expected to enhance the province’s global relations and strengthen cross-cultural competence among its leaders. It supports DOrSU’s mission to promote international education and intercultural awareness in Davao Oriental. (DOrSU PIO)
