DOrSU Marks 4th Founding Anniversary with Multi-Faith Religious Services and Sacramental Rites
In celebration of its 4th Founding Anniversary on May 28, 2025, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) hosted a series of multi-faith religious services for its students and employees, with separate gatherings for Catholics, Protestants, and Muslims— each offering a meaningful space for prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving.
A Eucharistic Celebration was held at the University Gymnasium, presided over by Most Rev. Bishop Abel C. Apigo, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Mati. The Mass drew a large congregation of students, faculty, administrative personnel, and members of the local community. One of the most heartfelt highlights was the reception of the First Holy Communion by four students and the Sacrament of Confirmation by twelve others—a spiritual milestone made possible through the dedicated efforts of DOrSU’s Catholic Students’ Organization (CSO) in coordination with the Diocese of Mati.
Simultaneously, a worship service was held at the Engineering Annex Building, led by Rev. Marcelo B. Hallares, which provided Protestant and Evangelical members of the university an opportunity to gather in praise, prayer, and reflection. The service emphasized themes of thanksgiving, renewal, and service to others—core values that align with DOrSU’s mission as a public academic institution.
Meanwhile, at the Graduate School Library, Muslim students, faculty, and staff participated in an Islamic lecture delivered by Alim Zimron Hon M. Tediaros. The session focused on the importance of peace, faith, and knowledge in building a just and inclusive academic environment, reinforcing the university’s commitment to cultural understanding and religious diversity.
More than ceremonial events, the religious services served as a reflection of DOrSU’s unwavering commitment to holistic development. By recognizing and supporting the spiritual lives of its constituents, the university fosters a learning environment rooted in mutual respect, faith, and inclusivity.
