Scholars and grantees gathered at the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) Gymnasium on April 2, 2025, for the Scholars and Grantees General Assembly to discuss Republic Act 10931, also known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, and other scholarship opportunities.
The event aimed to inform students about the benefits of RA 10931, which ensures free higher education and financial assistance through the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST). It also highlighted the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarship and other financial aid programs offered by local and national government agencies, as well as institutional scholarships within the university.
Leading the discussion was Ms. Cheryl Dovie U. Cafe, Lead Regional Coordinator of UniFAST XI, who provided an in-depth explanation of the programs under RA 10931. Following her, Engr. Vincent Jay Padillo presented details on the DOST Scholarship, guiding students on eligibility and application processes. Candy J. Martinez, LPT, Head of the university’s Financial Aids and Scholarship Grants (FAaSG) Office, concluded the session by outlining scholarship programs from local government units (LGUs), institutional scholarships, and national government grants available to DOrSU students.
Dr. Evangeline R. Rivera, Director for Student Affairs and Services, also graced the event. She highlighted the universityโs commitment to helping students understand their financial aid options.
The assembly provided a platform for students and parents to engage with scholarship experts and gain a clearer understanding of the financial assistance available to them.
With hundreds of scholars and grantees benefiting from these programs, the event underscored the universityโs continued efforts to make higher education accessible and inclusive for all.
