The Professional School for Agriculture and the Environment (PSAE) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) launched the first stop of its UP PSAE Mindanao Caravan at Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) Main Campus in the City of Mati on March 24. The event gathered around 70 participants, including graduating students, faculty members, and researchers, at the Faculty of Advanced and International Studies (FAIS) Library to learn more about UP PSAE’s graduate degree programs, scholarship opportunities, and other academic offerings.
Led by Dr. Sheryl A. Yap, UP PSAE Director, the UPLB delegation introduced the graduate programs offered by various UPLB academic units, including the College of Agriculture and Food Science, College of Development Communication, College of Human Ecology, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, School of Environmental Science and Management, and the College of Public Affairs and Development. The team also discussed the application requirements, admission process, and available scholarships for prospective students.
During the open forum, several faculty members expressed keen interest in enrolling in UP PSAE’s graduate programs, particularly those aligned with development communication, agriculture, and environmental management. Dr. Yap also elaborated on how classes are conducted, highlighting flexible learning arrangements.
Future discussions are planned to explore potential partnerships between UP PSAE and DOrSU, particularly in faculty development and research collaborations. In her closing message, Dr. Yap expressed her gratitude to DOrSU for the warm accommodation and for opening its doors to the caravan. She highlighted the significance of collaboration in fostering professional development and career advancement through lifelong learning. She also mentioned the longstanding partnership between UPLB and DOrSU in advancing academic and research initiatives.
The UP PSAE Mindanao Caravan will continue to visit other academic institutions across the island to promote graduate studies and strengthen linkages with local universities. In the coming days, the caravan is set to visit Davao del Norte State College, Mindanao State University – General Santos, University of Southern Mindanao, Xavier University, and Caraga State University to further its mission of academic engagement and collaboration.
