UP Diliman and DOrSU Sign MOU for Lab Development, Delegates Visit UResCom

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman have formalized a partnership aimed at enhancing laboratory protocols and services for research and innovation. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) took place at the University Boardroom on January 31, 2025.
DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, represented by Vice President Dr. Misael B. Clapano, and Dr. Pierangeli G. Vital, FPAM, Head of the UP Diliman Biological Research and Services Laboratory, signed the agreement, which focuses on developing the Institute of Bioassay Development and Screening (i-BIDS) and another laboratory under the University Research Complex (URESCoM).
Under the MOU, UP, through its Natural Sciences Research Institute, will provide technical assistance and consultancy services to DOrSU. The partnership aims to guide DOrSU on laboratory licensing requirements, assign personnel for communication and coordination, and offer policy recommendations to ensure compliance with professional standards in laboratory practices.
Following the signing ceremony, the UP delegates toured the University Research Complex (URESCoM) to assess ongoing projects and explore areas for future collaboration. The visit provided both institutions with the opportunity to discuss strategies for strengthening research, innovation, and extension initiatives, aligning their efforts to benefit the academic and research communities.
The MOU also emphasizes open communication between the two institutions, ensuring compliance with data privacy laws, and addressing intellectual property rights in joint research initiatives.
This partnership marks a significant step in the advancement of research and laboratory services at DOrSU, with both universities committed to enhancing the quality of scientific work and innovation.
