Anchored in its commitment to becoming a catalyst for transformative extension and fostering regenerative, future-ready communities, Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) organized a seminar-workshop titled “Towards a Regenerative Extension: Teaching, Empowering, and Transforming Communities” on October 10 at the DOrSU Board Room. Spearheaded by Dr. Mary Fil M. Bauyot, Director for Extension, the event sought to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the University’s extension services and strengthen the capacity of the University’s faculty extensionists in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating extension programs.
“The essence of extension is impact. We impart knowledge and create awareness to drive change,” emphasized Dr. Misael B. Clapano, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension (RIE), in his opening message. He highlighted the critical role of extension activities in creating tangible benefits for the communities served by the University.
Dr. Mary Fil M. Bauyot, who facilitated the seminar-workshop, highlighted the importance of standardizing assessment and evaluation tools to ensure consistent improvement across all programs. Her presentation focused on optimizing the processes and systems within the Extension Office, aiming for greater efficiency and better resource management. She also discussed strategies to identify community needs and service gaps, enhance the quality of extension proposals, and strengthen the overall capacity of faculty extensionists in delivering impactful extension initiatives.
The workshop gathered Academic Program Heads, RIE Coordinators from different faculties and campuses, and selected faculty members. Participants engaged in collaborative sessions on refining extension proposal packaging and reviewed the Extension Office’s procedures. A major outcome of the workshop was the development of a systematic approach to crafting more competitive proposals, ensuring that future projects are well-aligned with the University’s strategic vision.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the activity, recognizing it as a pivotal opportunity to align their efforts with DOrSU’s regenerative futures vision. “The workshop has given us guidance for refining our projects to better meet community needs,” shared one of the attendees.
The activity further strengthened DOrSU’s strategic vision of becoming a leader in regenerative futures in the Asia-Pacific region by 2035. By spearheading these initiatives, DOrSU is solidifying its role as a catalyst for positive change, actively fostering regenerative and future-ready communities.
