VR Revolution: DOrSU Hosts First-Ever Metaverse PE Classes
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) hosted its first-ever Physical Education Metaverse classes in collaboration with Tokyo Gakugei University on October 7-9, at the DOrSU Health and Wellness Center. Organized by the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) Program in collaboration with Dr. Naoki Suzuki, Associate Professor from Tokyo Gakugei University, the three-day event showcased the potential of virtual reality (VR) technology in enriching innovative learning experiences and fostering global connections.
The activity successfully brought together Filipino and Japanese students, allowing them to engage in immersive VR experiences that transcended geographical boundaries. Selected students from Davao Oriental Regional Science High School participated alongside their Japanese counterparts in dynamic VR dance sessions. The virtual environment enabled real-time interaction, breaking down barriers and promoting cultural exchange. “Dancing with my peers from Japan felt surreal,” said one participating student. “It was an incredible way to connect and learn from each other.”
Beyond the metaverse classes, the event featured engaging student interviews and discussions about the future of education. Participants explored the potential of technology to transform learning experiences, create more inclusive and accessible educational opportunities, and foster intercultural understanding.
Dr. Arvin A. Andacao, BPEd Program Head, reflected on the success of the event, describing it as a significant milestone in the integration of technology into physical education. He expressed pride in offering students the opportunity to connect with their peers internationally, allowing them to benefit from innovative learning environments. Dr. Andacao further emphasized the value of ongoing collaboration with international institutions, viewing the partnership with Tokyo Gakugei University as just the beginning of a broader initiative.
