The Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) has officially partnered with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Governor Generoso through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on September 11, at the Municipal Conference Hall, Sigaboy, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental. This collaboration aims to conduct a baseline marine biodiversity assessment in Barangay Tagabebe, led by Project Leader Amy G. Ponce.
The project, funded by the Municipal LGU of Governor Generoso, focuses on gathering essential data on fish, coral, and seagrass species in the proposed Local Conservation Area (LCA).
This biodiversity assessment is crucial for addressing climate change, promoting sustainable fishing practices, and protecting the marine ecosystem. It aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of climate action and life below water.
The MOA was signed by Hon. Juanito C. Inojales, Municipal Mayor of Governor Generoso, and Dr. Roy G. Ponce, President of DOrSU, cementing their commitment to the project’s success. Both leaders emphasized the significance of this initiative in ensuring environmental sustainability and enhancing the livelihoods of coastal communities in the region.
