In the aftermath of the recent devastation caused by Typhoon “Kabayan,” the DOrSU’s Faculty of Teacher Education partnered with the Diocese of Mati through its Commission on Health to address the mental health needs of children in Catigod, Brgy. San Pedro, Municipality of Caraga, Davao Oriental.
An initial assessment conducted by the Diocese’s Commission on Health identified a critical need for stress debriefing activities to help children cope with the distressful thoughts and emotions brought about by the aftermath of the typhoon. The Kalig-on Project, a community-based mental health support and intervention initiative, carried out these activities on December 22, 2023, in collaboration with the Caraga GKK officials.
This collaborative effort underscored the commitment of both the Diocese of Mati and DOrSU to extend love and kindness to their constituents affected by the recent typhoon. The initiative addressed the community’s immediate needs and highlighted the importance of mental health support in the aftermath of natural disasters. (DOrSU PIO)
