Hamiguitan Hairy-tailed Rat
Scientific Name: Batomys hamiguitan
Found only in Mt. Hamiguitan, in Davao Oriental, the Hamiguitan hairy-tailed rat (Batomys hamiguitan) is one of five species of rodent in the genus Batomys.
This forest rat is distinct for having a yellowish coat and a long furry tail. It lives in the dwarf mossy forest of the Mt. Hamiguitan around 950 meters.
This forest rat was the first mammal to be described from Eastern Mindanao. This discovery confirm the hypothesis that the island of Mindanao has multiple centers of endemism, of which the southeastern highland of Mount Hamiguitan is one.
