DOrSU transitions to be the frontier for public service
After its declaration as a full-fledged State University last May 28, 2021, the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) officially welcomed its first university president, Dr. Roy G. Ponce through an Investiture Ceremony and Turn-over of University Conversion Plaque at the A57 Techno Park Convention Center, City of Mati last October 16, 2021.
Present in the ceremony were CHED Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III, CHED Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, DOrSU Founder Hon. Joel Z. Almario, CHED Regional Director Hon. Maricar R. Casquejo, university officials, local politicians, and other presidential invitees.
Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III spearheaded the Turnover of the University Plaque. In his speech, he accentuated the new role of DOrSU to the local and global community. “Join these other prestigious Philippine universities in Mindanao, get your QS stars, benchmark and be among the best in the world” De Vera quipped.
Dr. Roy G. Ponce is the fifth and last president of the Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST) and is the first installed president as a State University. His term will end on May 25, 2025.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Ponce expressed his gratitude to the people behind his success especially to the DOrSU community whom he shared his knowledge and expertise for 25 years.
The President also urged the DOrSU community to take part in making the institution a university of excellence, innovation, and inclusion leading through beneficial and equitable change.
He stated three major steps to achieve this: first is to step up instruction and infrastructure with integration to ICT, second is to layout research infrastructure, and third is to engage in internationalization.
He substantiated plans and strategic goals to reach the heights of IP inclusion, modernization, and environmental protection and conservation in the Davao Region and beyond. (Carlos Soliven)
