DOrSU Hosts First Startup Founders Forum

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) recently hosted its first Start-Up Founders Forum as part of the inaugural Innovation and Extension (IE) Summit, coordinated by the Office of the Director for Innovation. This event, conducted on August 1, celebrated innovation, entrepreneurship, and community collaboration, drawing a diverse crowd of MSMEs, food vendors, students, faculty members, and innovators.
The conference featured prominent speakers from various industries, including Ms. Twila Kate McDonald, owner of a digital marketing company; Mr. Marcel Andrew Valles, owner of Tsoko Bistro; and Mr. Arnold Uyanguren, owner of Alfagraphics Printing Press. These pioneering founders shared their inspiring experiences in developing successful start-ups in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
Participants had the opportunity to interact with the speakers and gain valuable insights into the world of entrepreneurship. The event highlighted rapid advances in ICT, creative processes in the food industry, and innovative adaptations in the printing press sector, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and inspiration.
The summit emphasized the significance of innovation and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic growth and social progress. It concluded with a call to action, encouraging attendees to apply what they had learned in their own projects, fostering new ideas, collaborations, and breakthroughs for the future.
This initiative aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, which encourages entrepreneurship and innovation to boost the region’s economy and create opportunities for decent work; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, which supports the development of resilient infrastructure and sustainable industrialization; and SDG 4: Quality Education, which enhances education and opportunities for lifelong learning through knowledge sharing and capacity building.
