DOrSU Joins ACHIEVE Consortium to Reinforce Institutional Development
Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), represented by President Dr. Roy G. Ponce, has officially joined the ACHIEVE Consortium, a newly established network of 22 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the Philippines under Commissioner Shirley C. Agrupis on January 21. The consortium aims to strengthen academic programs, internationalization, resource generation, and research, innovation, and extension (RIE) initiatives.
The ACHIEVE Consortium (which stands for Academic Excellence; Creative, Relevant, and Innovative Research Programs; High Impact and Transformative Extension and Outreach Programs; Improved Revenue Generation and Resource Management; Expanded External Linkages and Partnerships; Vibrant and Engaging, Culturally-Focused University Campus; and Effective and Efficient Management) comprises various higher education institutions (HEIs), including SUCs, local universities and colleges (LUCs), and private universities and colleges. Member institutions will collaborate to enhance academic excellence, research innovations, and community engagement initiatives aligned with international standards.
The consortium builds on the legacy of Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, former MMSU president and now Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner. During her tenure at MMSU from 2017 to 2024, Dr. Agrupis implemented the ACHIEVE agenda, which propelled MMSU to top international rankings and attained significant institutional accreditations. Under her leadership, the university produced numerous topnotchers, improved its performance in licensure examinations, and established infrastructure for instruction, research, and production.
As CHED Commissioner, Dr. Agrupis expanded the ACHIEVE initiative into a national consortium involving 22 SUCs. The consortium focuses on sustainability and productivity programs across multiple disciplines, including agriculture, fisheries, education, engineering, health sciences, industrial technology, climate change, and food security.
DOrSU’s participation in the consortium will involve joint conferences, collaborative research activities, capacity-building programs, and faculty and student exchange initiatives. These efforts aim to further the university’s institutional development and align its initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through academic and community-based projects.
The consortium is managed by a Board of Advisers, with MMSU serving as the lead institution.
By joining the ACHIEVE Consortium, DOrSU aims to expand its capabilities and contribute to national and global development efforts through strengthened academic and research partnerships. (DOrSU PIO)
