Researchers from National University of Singapore visit DOrSU for Philippine Birds study
Representatives from the National University of Singapore (NUS) visited Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) on April 5, 2024, to discuss the two universities’ ongoing research collaboration on studying Philippine Montane birds.
During the meeting, DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce reaffirmed the university’s commitment to collaboration and emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing scientific understanding and environmental conservation efforts.
Following the meeting, a lecture was given by Movin Nyanasengeran from NUS on the biogeography and management of freshwater fishes at the DOrSU Graduate School library. This lecture provided insight into the dynamics of aquatic ecosystems and served as a platform for engagement, drawing participants from private and public schools under the Department of Education, as well as DOrSU’s biology students and faculty.
Notably, the NUS team and DOrSU researchers, Assistant Professor Giovanne G. Tampos and Mr. Keanu Sitjar, surveyed and collected bird samples at Baguan Watershed, Mount Mayo, from March 30 to April 3, 2024.
The collaboration between NUS and DOrSU, through its Institute of Tropical Regenerative Biodiversity, aims to uncover new insights into the ecological dynamics of the Philippine archipelago, with the aspiration to deepen the scope of joint research endeavors.
Additionally, this partnership aligns with DOrSU’s niche as a Regenerative Futures University dedicated to promoting the preservation of biodiversity for future generations. (DOrSU PIO)
