The 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration at Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) began with an opening ceremony on October 2 at the Engineering Extension Building of DOrSU Main Campus. Organized by the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Program in collaboration with the Society of Mathematics Majors and Mathrix, this month-long celebration is anchored on the theme “Advancing Data and Statistics through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation.” This theme emphasizes the modernization of the statistical system through digital tools and platforms to enhance the accuracy, timeliness, and accessibility of statistics.
The ceremony was graced by keynote speaker Ms. Fe T. Antipuesto, Senior Statistical Specialist from the Philippine Statistics Authority-Davao Oriental. In her speech, Ms. Antipuesto emphasized the crucial role that data and statistics play in empowering communities, particularly in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. She further encouraged attendees to embrace statistical literacy as a key component of informed decision-making and community development.
A series of engaging activities, including a Statistics Quiz Bee, Photo Essay Contest, StatisTALK, Statistok, and a Pi values enumeration contest, will be held throughout the month. The closing program and award ceremony will take place on October 30.
