UPLB Holds Mentorship Seminar at DOrSU, Advocates Alignment of Research projects with SDGs
The University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) recently held a two-day Higher Education Leadership Mentorship Seminar (HELMS) from April 12 at Davao Oriental State University. The seminar aimed to mentor and collaborate with the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Region XI and nearby provinces in advancing education and sustainable development in the region.
The seminar focused on aligning research endeavors and projects with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., UPLB’s chancellor, spoke about leadership in higher education and highlighted the role of visionary leadership in institutional progress. Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan, UPLB’s Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, discussed the evolving landscape of research impact rankings and the importance of aligning research with SDGs.
The seminar also included a Curriculum Development Workshop on Regenerative Agriculture and circular Economy, led by Dr. Amado A. Angeles and Dr. Rodmyr F. Datoon, which highlighted practical strategies for academic success. Vice Chancellor Roberto P. Cereno presented the potential of academic institutions as ecotourism destinations and catalysts for experiential learning and cultural exchange. Lastly, Dr. Jenielyn T. Padrones and Dr. Alona C. Linatoc conducted a session on best practices for writing research proposals and publications.
The 2nd HELMS in Mindanao, hosted by Davao Oriental State University, was participated by SUCs in Region XI and nearby provinces such as Central Mindanao University, University of Southern Mindanao, University of Southeastern Philippines, Davao de Oro State College, Davao del Sur State College, Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology, Davao del Norte State College, and a representative from Langoyon Beach Resort.
