DOrSU, PSA seal partnership to strengthen LGU capacity through statistics training

MATI CITY, Davao Oriental — Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) sealed a partnership to conduct statistics capacity-building for local government units (LGUs) following the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on February 18, 2026, at the DOrSU Board Room.
The agreement sets in motion joint training initiatives aimed at strengthening foundational statistical competencies that LGUs can apply in planning, implementation, and monitoring.
In her message, Ms. Emily P. Tomogdan, Chief Statistical Specialist of the Davao Oriental Provincial Statistics Office, framed the partnership as a direct investment in better governance outcomes through stronger local statistical practice. She added that PSA recognizes the state university’s role in promoting statistical literacy, research, and extension services at the local level, noting that DOrSU’s faculty and technical experts can help translate technical concepts into practical knowledge that LGUs can apply in planning, implementation, and monitoring.
“We look forward to a productive and lasting relationship built on trust, shared responsibility, and our common goal of improving the quality of the use of statistics for national and local progress,” she said.
DOrSU President Dr. Roy G. Ponce reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing data-driven governance with local partners, especially the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental. “We will be helping the Provincial Government particularly on the use of data for governance,” he said, adding that he is expecting more as the partnership opens further opportunities for evidence-based planning and decision-making across the province.
Also present during the ceremony were Dr. Rodrigo A. Salimaco, Jr., BS Mathematics Program Head, and faculty members of the program, who are expected to take the lead in the delivery of the statistics training under the partnership.
