DOrSU Bags Twin Citations in RDC XI DavPRIME 2024

Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU) bagged two major distinctions in the Regional Development Council XI (RDC XI) CY 2024 Search for Project Implementation and Monitoring Excellence in Davao Region (DavPRIME), spotlighting the university’s leadership in science-based, community-rooted innovation. The awards were conferred during the 4th Quarter 2025 RDC XI Full Council Meeting held on 3 December 2025 at Sotogrande Hotel, Maa, Davao City.
DOrSU’s pioneering 3D clay artificial coral reef initiative earned the Plaque of Commendation for Best Government Non-Infrastructure Project. Officially titled “Establishment of 3-D Artificial Clay Reefs in Selected Sites in Pujada Bay through rethinking, rebuilding, and regenerating Coral Reefs,” the project is implemented in partnership with rrreefs, a Swiss socio-ecological impact organization, and deploys 3D-printed terracotta modules to rehabilitate damaged coral reefs, enrich marine biodiversity in Pujada Bay, and involve local communities in climate-resilient coastal management. It was cited for its innovative, low-impact technology and strong community participation.
At the same event, DOrSU received a Plaque of Recognition as Finalist for Best Government Infrastructure Project for the “Construction and Establishment of the University Research Complex.” The project was recognized for efficient resource utilization, expert consultations, benchmarking with leading national laboratories, and pooled procurement strategies that enabled the establishment of six specialized research laboratories. Once fully operational, the complex is envisioned as a hub for interdisciplinary research in biodiversity, fisheries, agriculture, food innovation, and other development-oriented fields.
The awards were conferred by RDC XI officials led by Governor Edwin I. Jubahib, Council Chair, and DEPDev XI Regional Director Priscilla R. Sonido, Regional Project Monitoring Committee Chair. These twin honors place DOrSU among the region’s top performers in project implementation and monitoring and affirm the university’s contribution to key global goals, particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
